Mike Sabina is a mechanical engineer with over 25 years of experience in the oil, gas and energy transition sectors. Formerly Engineering Director at Wood Iberia, he has led major projects and supervised over 200 engineers in Madrid. Now Director of Industry and Energy at SEGULA Spain, he drives the strategic growth and sustainable development of the group’s activities.

Engineering at the service of transition

The Madrid design office brings together more than 180 engineers and designers. Their work covers a wide range of disciplines: mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, processes and industrial safety.
Together, they support major energy players in their transformation projects. One such project is called Solar 360 Floating PV. It is a system of solar panels installed on water, a useful solution when there is a lack of land space.
SEGULA is also contributing to the BESS Lomillas project, a battery energy storage facility. The acronym BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) refers to a device capable of storing electricity generated by wind or solar power and then releasing it when demand increases. ‘Our teams know how to go from a blank sheet of paper to a construction site. They design, verify and supervise each stage to ensure the technical reliability and safety of the installations,’ explains Mike Sabina.

Long-term partnerships with major players

For more than ten years, SEGULA has been working with Repsol, a major player in the Spanish energy sector. Together, they are developing engineering and innovation projects in clean energy.
This cooperation is based on trust built up over time. ‘Our strengths, technical reliability, multidisciplinary expertise and willingness to build long-term partnerships have enabled us to maintain Repsol’s trust,’ emphasises Mike Sabina.
