In the automotive industry, design allows a manufacturer to bring a new vehicle model to life. In effect, this discipline consists of translating an initial stylistic draft into a digital surface development drawing, containing all the vehicle’s visible components, before embarking on nal studies and production.
To achieve this, designers produce their preliminary drawings on paper, illustrating both the vehicle’s internal and external components. This is followed by digital modelling using dedicated software, and subsequently the creation of 3D images or lms, based on the principle of virtual reality (or rendering), providing highly accurate visualisation.
Finally, the designers incorporate all the technical constraints into the views, by producing a surface development drawing, in order to de ne the minute detail of each component and guaranteeing a uniform overall picture.
