SEGULA Technologies opens a Centre of excellence for rail in Chemnitz (Germany)

SEGULA Technologies has opened a new Centre of excellence for rail vehicle development in Chemnitz at the beginning of February 2020 in order to be able to optimally support customers in the Germany-Austria-Switzerland region.

Engineering group strengthens its presence in the railway sector

Rüsselsheim/Chemnitz, 20 February 2020 – SEGULA Technologies, a global engineering group with headquarters in Nanterre (Paris) and 140 offices in more than 30 countries, has opened a new Centre of excellence for rail vehicle development in Chemnitz at the beginning of February 2020 in order to be able to optimally support customers in the Germany-Austria-Switzerland region.

With its functional development expertise in vehicle electrics and vehicle control systems as well as mechanical design, the local team of around 20 people offers comprehensive services for both new vehicles and modernisation projects to well-known railway manufacturers, train operators and Tier 1 suppliers.

SEGULA Technologies has been successful in the railway sector in Europe for many years. More than 800 employees group-wide are currently working on various projects for international and national operating companies in this industry. SEGULA already has several other Centres of excellence for rail on European territory, including Vado Ligure (Italy), Zaragoza (Spain) and La Rochelle (France) for rolling stock, and Rome and Madrid for signaling systems.

Chemnitz, as a traditional centre for mechanical engineering, is the ideal location for us to be close to our existing and potential customers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland,” says Roland Haun, Rail and Energy Business Unit Director. “Since European and German rail transport companies will be making significant investments in their infrastructure, in new vehicles and also in digitalisation in the coming years, we are supporting our customers with our extensive industry expertise on this future-oriented path“.

The company took over parts of Opel’s development centre in September 2019 and since then has been offering the complete development and testing of vehicles, engines and transmissions from Germany. The focus of SEGULA Technologies in Germany is currently mainly on the automotive industry, with promising potential in other sectors. Modern vehicle technology, autonomous driving, industry 4.0, simulations or even the efficient design of a production line are competences that companies in the automotive industry and in the railway sector alike are increasingly demanding. “Especially when it comes to cross-industry topics, we can draw on our comprehensive expertise, which spans different industries,” adds Corine de Bilbao, SEGULA Technologies International CEO. “With our new competence centre in Chemnitz we are strengthening our presence in Germany and at the same time our global market presence in the railway sector“.

SEGULA Technologies will exhibit at InnoTrans, the world’s leading trade fair for transport technology held in Berlin in September 2020 to present new innovations and solutions for the railway sector.
