Portrait of Sara Manzano-Garcia Project Manager in Spain

What is your current position at SEGULA?

I’m Project Manager dedicated to managing the product modifications of vehicle parts, for our RSA client in Spain and France factories.

What other professional experiences have you had?

I started my Professional Career at Grupo Antolin as Development Product Engineer for RSA, Nissan and Jaguar-Land Rover Projects mainly, making the design of plastic parts and following up the industrialization of them in different countries, such us Japan, England or Russia.

At SEGULA, I started in 2015 as Product Engineer monitoring the product modifications of parts. After that, SEGULA proposed me the function of team responsible and in 2019 I ascended to Project Manager.

What is your background?

My background is in the automotive industry, my professional career has been focused on this sector from the beginning. The global vision to work from the supplier side for different OEMS and from the customer side, allows to “open the mind” and participate in SEGULA’s growth in this sector.

How and when did you decide to become an engineer?

When I was studying in high school, I often saw “how is made” TV shows about automotive, high structures etc. That’s when I decided on my future as en engineer.

What do you like about working in the automotive sector?

The speed of change. The automotive industry makes us to be waked up all time. It is the industry which introduces new procedures earlier than others, such as Agile methodology, as instance.

It is a demanding industry, it requires to be active 100% of the time, proactive and reactive.

The capacity of improvement is unlimited.

As a woman, was it difficult to get into your current position? Have you been supported?

I was and I‘m lucky that my hierarchy does not differentiate between men and women, they believe in the personal skills of each one for growing, both horizontally and vertically in the company. Anyway, it is true that there are some situations where being a woman requires to demonstrate more capacity to lead different situations, to coordinate the professional and personal life, to control some situations in front of people with a sexist thought.,

Times are changing regarding equality, so, I am sure that our current difficulties will disappear.

What challenges do you face at SEGULA?

Continue growing at SEGULA in the Management of Projects. In fact, I am studying the Master of Business Administration at University of Valladolid, so, I hope that it will give me more abilities to apply in my current job or in my futures positions in the company.

What do you like about your position today? Do you have any successes to share with us?

I like many aspects of my current position but If I had to name just one, I would say the ability to implement synergies between the different departments of the Serial life Work Package.

I allow to say that to run the Project successfully, it’s only possible if the team remain united. Due to the pandemic, keeping the “team spirit” at distance for two years, was a real challenge and proved to be a success. We have made “virtual obeyas”, meetings dedicated to motivating the team, etc. We have been looking for alternatives to simulate the face-to-face work.

What advice would you give to women who want to work on the engineering/industry sector and reach high positions of responsibility?

I recommend working hard, suggesting ideas to improve work, performance and keeping smile and control even if some days are difficult

What is your biggest dream?

SEGULA Spain is a model in management of the RSA Serial Life Work Package, so, my biggest dream is to maintain the level of quality we have demonstrated over the years and to share this knowledge to others departments, customer or countries.
